ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE
Gary Carter Jr. is the Louisiana State Senator for Senate District 7, which includes the Westbank of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes and the Eastbank of Plaquemines Parish.
Gary serves as the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works and sits on the Health & Welfare and Judiciary Committees.
Prior to his election to the Louisiana Senate in 2021, Gary served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, where he represented District 102 which encompasses the Westbank of Orleans Parish.
First elected in 2015, Gary served in numerous leadership positions in the Louisiana House of Representatives, including as Vice-Chairman of the Appropriations Committee (2019 - 2021), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Minority, Female, and Veteran-Owned Enterprises (2019-2021), and Vice-Chairman of the Education Committee (2018-2019).
Gary graduated from Xavier University with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He earned his law degree from Tulane Law School.
